Ed Woodward adds another sponsor to Man Utd’s portfolio with official gambling partner

Man Utd executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has added a 23rd sponsor to the club’s ever-growing list of partners.

The Red Devils announced a deal with sports betting platform Yabo Sport, who have been named as their official gambling partner.

United were previously sponsored by Mo Play, but they have now been replaced.

The contract between United and Yabo Sport is believed to be worth around £2-3 million per season, according to sport business expert Lukasz Baczek .

Yabo Sport were presented as the club’s new partner for Sunday’s match with Chelsea .

United’s commercial income has grown significantly since Woodward’s arrival

Woodward, 47, has developed a reputation as a shrewd operator in terms of his commercial dealings.

The latest partnership is just one of a long line of deals worked on by the United chief, with the club now boasting a huge range of partners.

He has overseen a steep rise in United’s commercial revenue from £66 million in 2008/09, to £276 million in 2017/18 ( via MEN ).

This includes the mammoth £750 million deal with sportswear giant Adidas to make the club’s kit over a 10-year period, as well as a contract with shirt sponsors Chevrolet estimated to be worth a further £500 million.

Insurance company Aon, delivery firm DHL, oil retailer Gulf, gaming giants Konami and watchmakers Tag Heuer are just some of the other partners with which United are associated.

The deal with Yabo Sports is just another sign of gambling’s prominence within football.

United have mega-money deals with Adidas and Chevrolet

Nine of the 20 teams in this seasons Premier League have gambling companies as their shirt sponsors, in addition to 17 out of 24 in the Championship.

Sky Bet also sponsor all three of the divisions in the football league, with Gambling Watch UK’s Jim Orford previously expressing his concerns.

Orford said: “There is evidence that gambling is becoming ever more normalised, particularly among young people, so that increasingly betting is seen as part and parcel of following and supporting one’s favourite sport or team.”
