CHANNEL 4 is planning to launch a morning magazine television show to compete with ITV’s This Morning.
The channel is reportedly looking for two household names to host the new show that would air against both This Morning and Loose Women.
Both This Morning – hosted by telly favourite Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield – and Loose Women have held the market in live television during the day but haven’t been able to match the ratings from the BBC’s offerings of the likes of Homes Under the Hammer.
Bur the shows are hugely popular at awards shows and they don’t have any direct rivals – which is something bosses at Channel 4 appear keen to change.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Channel 4 has been wanting to launch a daytime show for over a year but the wheels are firmly in motion now.
“They are listening to pitches from production companies next month.
“They’re eyeing up the This Morning and Loose Women slot, knowing how popular both shows are for ITV. But they know they need to get the format spot on if its to succeed.
“The hope is to get it on air next year.”
Names said to being considered for hosting the new show are Davina McCall, comedian Alan Carr, Adam Hills, Richard Ayoade and Maya Jama.
ITV suffered a blow earlier this year when it was forced to cancel The Jeremy Kyle Show after the suicide of a guest.
It was the biggest draw to the channel in the daytime and its replacements have yet to bring in anywhere near the ratings of the show.
The Sun on Sunday exclusively revealed today how host Jeremy will make his television comeback soon with a prime time show.
