• In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper removes a large blackhead located directly under a patient’s eye.
• After creating an opening using a scalpel, Dr. Lee uses a comedone extractor to remove the rest of the blackhead’s contents.
• Blackheads form when pores in the skin become clogged with oil and dead skin cells.

Not everyone would want to watch a closeup of a blackhead under a patient’s eye right before bed, but fans of Dr. Pimple Popper continue to prove that they’re a special breed. In her latest Instagram post, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—makes quick work of the lesion, using a scalpel-like tool to create an opening, followed by her trusty comedone extractor to remove the rest of the sebum. As she puts it in the post’s cheeky caption, “Good night. Sleep tight. Don’t let the blackheads bite.”

As for that stuff she squeezes out, it’s mostly a combination of oil and dead skin cells—not trapped dirt, as people often mistakenly claim, according to MedicalNewsToday. Blackheads get their color due to their exposure to the air, which causes the skin cells at the surface to undergo the process of oxidation, which in term causes them to turn black. If you’re dealing with blackheads yourself, try and resist the impulse to squeeze them and use a gentle facial cleanser containing salicylic acid instead. Here are a few picks that a dermatologist recommends.
