Who is Dave Arch? Meet the conductor and pianist on Strictly Come Dancing

STRICTLY Come Dancing isn’t loved by audiences just for the brilliant dancing, but also for the brilliant live music it serves up each week.

Musical director Dave Arch is the man in charge of making the magic happen. Here’s everything we know about the conductor and his career…

Who is Dave Arch?

David Arch – better known as Dave Arch – is a British pianist, conductor, arranger and composer who has enjoyed a prolific career covering a broad spectrum of the music business including albums, films and commercials, live and television work.

He grew up near Henley-On-Thames in Oxfordshire and got his musical training at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Dave went on to play the piano in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and he continues to play jazz piano at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club with vocalist Madeline Bell.

The talented musician is a pianist but also dabbles with the violin, guitar and bass.

As a keyboardist and pianist, he has worked on films including The Imitation Game, Gravity and The Grand Budapest Hotel – as well as five films in the Harry Potter franchise.

Dave began his role as musical director for Strictly Come Dancing in 2006.

He is also the Musical Director for recent productions of the Royal Variety Performance show on ITV as well as shows like Popstar to Operastar.

In 2016, Dave released of his own debut album Coming Home –  a collection of original compositions featuring around 80 of the UK’s finest musicians.

Dave has also recorded with legendary artists including Tina Turner, Elton John and Paul McCartney.

Who performs with Dave Arch on Strictly?

Dave took over as Musical Director for series 4 of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

He leads the Strictly Come Dancing Band which is made up of some of Britain’s finest session musicians.

The singers are Tommy Blaize, Andrea Grant, Lance Ellington and Hayley Sanderson.

When is Strictly on BBC One?

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays at around 6.30pm on BBC One.

Tonight’s show (Saturday, December 1) kicks off at 7.05pm and finished at 8.10pm.

The results show goes out on Sunday evening at around 7.45pm.

Judges Shirley BallasBruno TonioliCraig Revel-Horwood, and Darcey Bussell have returned to the show for another year.

Claudia Winkleman replaced the late Sir Bruce Forsyth in 2014, joining Tess Daly as the presenting duo.

Strictly: It Takes Two, hosted by Zoe Ball, is on BBC every week day at 6.30pm, with an extended show starting at 6pm on Fridays.
