Arsenal hold contract talks with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal have begun discussing new contracts with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – but they have not signed new deals.

Aubameyang, 30, only has two years left and Arsenal have publicly insisted they will get tough on all players with only two years as they do not want them to run down their contracts.

They are keen for him to stay but have yet to tie down Aubameyang and Mirror Sport understands that Lacazette is also an interesting case.

Arsenal made an approach to Lacazette at the start of the summer to start contract talks but his representatives are happy to wait.

Lacazette is desperate to play Champions League football, wants to help Arsenal get there and will be in line for big bonuses for getting them into the top four.

However, Lacazette also believes now that if Arsenal fail to make top four then the club will come to a reasonable agreement to let him leave for a team in the Champions League.

It promises to be an interesting year for Lacazette and his ambition should be admired rather than feared – especially as he wants to play in the Champions League with Arsenal.

Meanwhile, it is understood Arsenal are expecting a double announcement later for the signings of Kieran Tierney and David Luiz. Tierney is joining from Celtic for £25m and Luiz from Chelsea for £8m.

Both have undergone medicals at the training ground and Luiz and Tierney should be done this afternoon with the deadline at 5pm but, as long as clubs register paperwork, they can announce signings until 7pm.
