The 32-year-old was a guaranteed starter under Maurizio Sarri last season, with the Italian preferring Luiz alongside Antonio Rudiger at the heart of defence.
An impressive campaign for the Brazilian saw him sign a new two-year contract back in May – with the Blues straying from their usual practice of only giving one-year extensions to players over the age of 30.
However, despite recently speaking in glowing terms about Lampard’s return to the club, Luiz is now desperate to push through a move to Arsenal , and a reunion with Unai Emery.
The Brazilian did not train with the Chelsea first-team at Cobham on Wednesday and is agitating to secure a move to The Emirates.
The Blues’ kick off their Premier League campaign against Manchester United on Sunday and in their final pre-season friendly last weekend, Luiz was an unused substitute.
Against Borussia Monchengladbach, Lampard started with Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma, who has returned to the club after a successful loan spell at Everton last term.
That duo are set to start at Old Trafford this weekend, and Luiz will be further down the pecking order when German international Antonio Rudiger returns from injury.
Mirror Football understands that Lampard is happy to sell Luiz.
As such he is now desperate to move to Arsenal, who this week saw captain Laurent Koscielny finally depart for Bordeaux, following his own summer saga.
Unai Emery has been pursuing a new centre-half, but they have been frustrated in their pursuits of Dayot Upamecano and Daniele Rugani; at present, Calum Chambers and Sokratis are set to start the season.
Therefore, Luiz’s chances of being first-choice in north London are much higher.
As such he is eager to reunite with Emery, with whom he worked, albeit briefly, at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Emery was keen to retain Luiz in 2016, but was overruled by PSG chiefs, who pocketed £34million with his sale.
Arsenal have yet to make a formal bid to take Luiz across London, but interest has been made known to his agent, Kia Joorabchian; the Gunners’ technical director, Edu, is also represented by Joorabchian.
But with the deadline closing in fast, they aren’t going to get him for peanuts.
