What Sir Alex Ferguson said to Christian Eriksen’s agent about Man Utd transfer in 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson was a keen admirer of Christian Eriksen, according to reports.

In fact the legendary Manchester United boss was considering signing the Dane when he was in charge of the Old Trafford club.

Tottenham star Eriksen is linked with a move to United this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his midfield before the season begins this weekend.

Spurs are happy to part company with Eriksen for a transfer fee, as his contract expires next summer and he could leave on a free.

What’s more, the Dane isn’t in Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans after he admitted he is looking for a new challenge away from the club earlier in the transfer window.

According to the MEN, Ferguson was monitoring Eriksen back in 2012, when the midfielder was plying his trade at Ajax.

Ferguson was considering signing him and Eriksen was keen on the move.

The Dane had his agent talk to United to gauge their interest, but Ferguson explained he needed to scout the midfielder for a little longer before making a bid.

In the end Ferguson decided to splash the cash on Shinji Kagawa instead as his contract was running down at Borussia Dortmund and he was available for just £17million.
