• In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper removed a large, egg-shaped pilar cyst from a man’s head.
• Pilar cysts are typically benign, fluid-filled sacs that appear on the scalp.
• They’re relatively harmless and not too common, affecting just five to ten percent of the population.

In her latest Instagram clip, Dr. Pimple Popper kept her recent streak of pilar cyst extractions going—this time with a video that shows the removal of a large cyst from a man’s scalp. As the clip begins, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—is shown marking off the egg-shaped protrusion on the back of the patient’s head.

While it may look somewhat alarming, pilar cysts are actually relatively harmless, according to Medical News Today, and also somewhat rare, affecting only about five to ten percent of the population.

Pilar cysts are usually caused by a blockage in the follicle, which leads to keratin and dead skin cells building up, causing the skin to swell. (If you’re curious what all that gunk inside looks like, an earlier video posted today will give you a pretty good idea.)

Likewise, they’re almost always found on the scalp. And as a YouTube video that Dr. Lee posted earlier today made clear, they can also take on a wide range of shapes and sizes. Thankfully, they’re relatively easy for an experienced dermatologist—such as Dr. Pimple Popper—to treat.
