Newly-promoted Norwich are latest Premier League club to show interest in Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater

  • Brighton made a tentative enquiry for Drinkwater over the weekend
  • The 29-year-old midfielder does not figure in Frank Lampard’s plans
  • Norwich have also enquired about Nathaniel Chalobah and Ibrahim Amadou

Norwich City have made an enquiry for Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Drinkwater will be allowed to leave Chelsea this week as, like Tiemoue Bakayoko and Davide Zappacosta, he does not figure in Frank Lampard‘s plans.

Brighton made tentative enquiries for Drinkwater over the weekend but are considering alternatives while also channelling around £18million into buying a striker, notably Brentford’s Neal Maupay.

Norwich have added Drinkwater to their targets after also enquiring about Watford’s former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah and Sevilla’s powerful former French U19 international Ibrahim Amadou.

Drinkwater was left out of Chelsea’s squad for their final pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach along with Tiemoue Bakayoko as the Stamford Bridge club consider offers for the duo.

Drinkwater failed to play under Maurizio Sarri and while he has had a limited chance under Frank Lampard has been unable to stake a claim for a first team starting place.

The former England international joined Chelsea for £35m after winning a Premier League title with Leicester City and signed a five year contract of which he still has three years left.
