Romelu Lukaku transfer latest after Man Utd call off Paulo Dybala deal

Posted on

Manchester United have ended their interest in Paulo Dybala – but could still end up selling Romelu Lukaku.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now looking at other targets after a potential swap deal involving Lukaku for Juventus star Dybala proved impossible.

But Lukaku could still be on his way out with Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte saying he is “very hopeful” of getting a deal done.

The Dybala breakdown comes after it emerged that one of the major sticking points was Dybala’s complex contract demands involving a wrangle over his image rights Star Image.

There have been long standing doubts over whether Dybala actually wants to leave Italy for Old Trafford but also his wage demands, agent fees and now the image rights.

Lukaku could still yet leave Manchester United this summer

It is a major blow for United with the clock ticking on major deals as they are set to announce the £80m signing of Harry Maguire.

Juventus had been keen to sell Dybala – who has also interested Tottenham – while also bringing in United striker Lukaku.

But Inter Milan have not given up on Lukaku, although it remains to be seen if United will let him go if they are not now making a signing.

Dybala will not be joining Manchester United this summer

Inter boss Conte said: “We continue to work on it in the best possible way. I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled but at the moment I am very hopeful that this will happen. At the same time I’m working with a great group of players that gives me lots of satisfaction.

“I’m reading [about] this swap [with Juventus] in the papers. For sure Lukaku, we are talking about a good player, a striker that in the past I tried to buy when I was Chelsea ’s coach.

“We’re talking about two big clubs, Juventus and Inter Milan, but honestly I don’t know [what will happen].”
