Man Utd’s three attacking targets revealed after Gareth Bale snub

Manchester United have decided against making a move for Gareth Bale this summer.

United have been long-time admirers of the Wales star.

But club chiefs have, according to ESPN, snubbed the opportunity to land the Real Madrid outcast ahead of next season.

Bale, 30 next month, has no future at the Santiago Bernabeu under Zinedine Zidane.

And having already spent almost £300million this summer on the likes of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy, Madrid are desperate to sell the ex-Tottenham man.

They had hoped United could be tempted, particularly with Madrid keen on recouping the majority of their £85million outlay on Bale when signing him in 2013.

But amid a change in transfer strategy, concerns over the player’s injury history and his astronomical salary, United have told Madrid that they don’t want to discuss any deal at the present moment.

Instead, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are prioritising other targets, particularly in attack.

With Romelu Lukaku keen to move to Inter Milan, Solskjaer is desperate to further supplement his attack, having signed Swansea winger Daniel James on Wednesday.

James fits United’s new-found transfer strategy, prioritising young talent rather than signing expensive older players.

United scouts have been regulars in France in recent months, and Ligue 1 forwards Nicolas Pepe and Moussa Dembele are both on the club’s radar.

Pepe, the Ivory Coast international, is set to leave Lille and has been watched by a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, notably Bayern Munich. Mirror Football previously revealed United’s interest in May.

Left-footed, he prefers to play from the right side, an area where United are desperate to improve.

Lyon’s ex-Celtic striker Dembele is viewed as a direct replacement for Lukaku, should the Belgian depart.

Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser is another option that United have been monitoring, given his contract situation at Dean Court.

However, a move for the Scotland international seems unlikely give the signing of James and presence of Anthony Martial, both of whom, like Fraser, prefer to play from the left.
