The world’s longest water slide has opened at a water park in the Spanish holiday resort of Benidorm.

The Cyclon is 200 metres long (655ft), 36 metres high (118ft) and boasts a huge vortex funnel that is 22 metres (72ft) in diameter.

It is located at the Aqualandia park and dramatic video shows the twists and turns that riders experience on the slide.

To ride the slide, swimmers sit on a four-seat raft that hurtles along the 2.7-metre-wide chute, which is uncovered in several sections.

Passengers hit speeds of up to 37mph before coming face to face with the central element of the ride – a large vortex.

The vortex, a kind of giant funnel, then ‘swallows’ the riders and Aqualandia says it gives them a ‘feeling of zero gravity’.

The Cyclon is open to ride now having been officially unveiled at Aqualandia last month.

Aqualandia is one of Europe’s largest water parks and is perched high above Benidorm on its beautifully landscaped, pine-covered slopes.

It has a series of terrifying vertical plunges, gentle slides for younger children and an adventure pool.
