CORONATION Street fans are in shock after Rana Habeeb returned from the dead to haunt Carla Connor tonight – and she dressed up as Hayley Cropper.

The dead nurse – who is played by Bhavna Limbachia in the ITV soap – appeared as part of a horrifying hallucination by Carla Connor as her paranoid delusions grew stronger, leading to her being hospitalised.

At first viewers were hopeful after Carla spotted a woman dressed in Hayley Cropper’s red coat.

Hayley, who died in 2014, was one of Carla’s closest friends and one of the few people to care for her through all her trauma on the cobbles.

But it quickly became clear this was not Hayley, but a cruel vision in Carla’s mind that saw her follow her up the fire escape on Victoria Street.

And as Carla got to the top, the red coat figure turned around and horrified Carla – not to mention fans – by being Rana.

She evilly told Carla she was responsible for her death, pushing Carla further to the edge.

Meanwhile, Carla’s partner Peter had quietly followed her up the fire escape to try and help her, but in a tragic twist her mind tricked her into believing it was her brother Aidan Connor.

Aidan took his own life two years ago after his depression grew too much for him to cope with.

The heartbreaking scenes ended with Carla being sectioned for her own safety and wellbeing while the true villain behind everything was revealed.

  • Coronation Street continues on Monday night at 7.30pm
