Loris Karius has turned down the chance to attend Liverpool’s Champions League final clash with Tottenham .
The goalkeeper is halfway through a two-year loan spell as Besiktas having been shipped out following two key errors in the Champions League final last year.
Karius had a miserable night as the Reds were beaten by Real Madrid but was offered the chance to attend this year’s final with all players out on loan guaranteed tickets.
But according to the Daily Mail , Karius has turned down the offer as he does not want to be a distraction on what is a huge night for his former side.
The 25-year-old has instead opted top go on holiday rather than risk diverting attention ahead of a huge evening for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
The club and coaching staff are said to be supportive of his decision having remained in close contact during his temporary stint in Turkey.
Karius made two howlers in the final last year but was supported by the club in the aftermatch with subsequent tests suggesting he could have been affected by a concussion before his errors.
He started pre-season at Anfield before the arrival of Alisson Becker led to his departure to Istanbul, where he has had a mixed time.
His partner saw the word “loser” spray painted onto her car after he expressed he was keen to stay at the club next season.
Karius is said to have a close relationship with Liverpool loan pathways manager Julian Ward, who has made several visits to Istanbul to check on the keeper, whilst sporting director Michael Edwards has also made a personal visit to Turkey.
Despite no hard feelings over his Anfield exit, Karius will be wishing his former team-mates good luck from afar rather than being amongst the thousands of fans in the Spanish capital for their huge clash with Tottenham.
