Jordan Henderson admits advice from Manchester United legend Roy Keane has stuck with him throughout his career.
Liverpool have beaten PSG, Bayern Munich and Porto already in the competition but their semi-final second leg victory over Barcelona was the most impressive.
Liverpool were beaten 3-0 at the Nou Camp after a stunning Lionel Messi performance but fought back to win 4-0 in the second leg at Anfield.
But despite his admiration for the Barcelona talisman, Henderson refused to ask for his shirt.
And his reasoning comes from when he played under Manchester United legend Keane as he came through at Sunderland.
“Did I think about asking for his shirt? No. I’ve never done it,” Henderson told the Mail.
“Roy Keane told me when I was at Sunderland that if you ask for someone’s shirt, it looks like you are in awe of them.”
Henderson didn’t come home empty-handed as he ended up swapping shirts with a former teammate.
Luis Suarez scored against his ex-club and was jeered on his return to Anfield but for Henderson, there are no hard feelings.
“As it turned out, I came home with Luis Suarez’s shirt. Luis is a good lad and he gave me it as a gesture as we had played together for Liverpool. I don’t know what he’s done with mine,” he added.
Liverpool face Tottenham in the final of the Champions League in Madrid as they bid to go one better than last season, when they lost to Real in Kiev.
