De Ligt has become one of world football’s most sought-after players following a stellar season at the heart of Ajax’s defence.
The 19-year-old played a pivotal role in the Dutch champions reaching the Champions League semi-finals and looked like a player well beyond his years.
Earlier this week, it was claimed United are ‘very close’ to signing the young defender after offering him a staggering £350,000-a-week deal.
The Leiderdorp native, however, doesn’t plan on deciding his future until he’s assessed all the options he has on the table and figured out which club will take him to the next level.
He said: “I look at what I think is the best for my career, where I can develop the best, where I can make the most playing minutes. On that I base my choice.”
De Ligt is well aware of the intense speculation surrounding his future but is currently focused on his international commitments with the Netherlands.
“Where do I see myself? Well obviously the Premier League is a big competition, Spain also, but you have other competitions, it’s not just about those two,” De Ligt said during a press conference on Sunday afternoon.
“I still don’t know anything about where my future is, so I’ll see how it goes. First we have to play two games and after that I will see what happens next.
“Of course there is some interest from clubs, but I don’t want to say some names who are interested.
“But what I will say is I am now focused on the national team and after the national team I will see what the future brings.”
At this moment in time, De Ligt doesn’t have a preference for his next team, saying: “Of course a lot is being written. I think it has been like that all year long and I am not being fooled by it.
“I am not so worried that so many have been written. Frenkie de Jong already knows that he is going to a new club. Not me yet. That’s it.”
When asked if he has a dream club, he replied: “It is not one club that is interested, no.
“Whether I have a dream club? No, I don’t really have a dream club outside of Ajax. It was always my dream to play at Ajax. I succeeded and I’m happy about that.”
De Ligt will be back in action on June 6 when the Netherlands take on England in the Nations League semi-finals.
