PETALING JAYA: It took China just three ties to reach their 13th Sudirman Cup final.
At the Guangxi Sports Centre Gymnasium in Nanning yesterday, the hosts were simply a class above as they thumped Thailand 3-0.
World No. 1 mixed doubles pair Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong got the ball rolling when he outclassed Dechapol-Puavaranukroh Taerat-tanachai 21-18, 21-7 – their seventh win in eight meetings.
It was also sweet revenge for Siwei-Yaqiong as they had lost to the Thais in the semi-finals of the Singapore Open last month.
China doubled the lead when world No. 2 Shi Yuqi laboured to a 21-15 26-24 win in 55 minutes against Kantaphon Wangcharoen.
It was then down to reigning men’s doubles world champions Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen to seal the game for China.
They eventually beat Tinn Isriyanet-Kittinupong Kedren 21-14, 21-17 in 44 minutes.
With 10 titles under their belt, China are the most successful side in the tournament’s history.China bt Thailand 3-0 (Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong bt Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-18, 21-7; Shi Yuqi bt Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-15, 26-24; Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen bt Tinn Isriyanet-Kittinupong Kedren 21-14, 21-17).
