A bio-plastic toothbrush and wax paper earplugs: Finnair’s new 60s-style eco-friendly amenity kit for business class passengers ‘unboxed’

- There are 4 1960s-style designs by Maija Isola in total, available in two palettes
- Organic brand L:A Bruket is supplying tubes of lip cream and a facial hydrator
Finnair has unveiled a new range of sustainable amenity kits for business-class passengers – and here we ‘unbox’ one.
Like the current goody bags, they have been created by Finnish design house Marimekko. There are four 1960s-style designs by Maija Isola in total, each one available in two colour palettes.
The contents, meanwhile, have serious eco-credentials. The toothbrush is made from bio-plastic containing cornstarch, and plastic wrappings for the earplugs have been replaced with wax paper.

Each kit, and the complimentary slippers, comes wrapped in a cardboard band – instead of plastic – and natural and organic skincare brand L:A Bruket supplies tubes of almond-coconut lip cream and a chamomile-lavender facial hydrator.
Finnair will also offer L:A Bruket hand soap and hand cream in its onboard business-class bathrooms, and in its lounges and shower suites.
Finnair says it has upgraded the eye mask, too, with ‘soft-touch fabric and higher quality straps’.

The amenity kits are currently being rolled out for all trans-continental flights on Airbus A350 (pictured) and Airbus A330 aircraft
There are no razors, socks or combs, but these are available on an on-demand basis.
Memory foam pillows and modacrylic-wool-blend shawls can also be requested.

David Kondo, Head of Cabin Interior Development at Finnair, said: ‘We wanted to introduce more patterns more often, so there is something new and fresh for our frequent flyers. The new kits have also been sized so they can live on after each flight for a variety of uses.’
He added: ‘Finnair and L:A Bruket are both Nordic brands that value sustainability.
‘We view this partnership as a great initiative to increase the appeal of our amenity kit. We’re also trying to connect the lounge and in-flight experience more and more for our customers, and offering organic and natural L:A Bruket products both on the ground and in the air is a great step in that direction.’
Finnair flies up to seven times daily from London Heathrow to Helsinki, where passengers can fly on to destinations across Asia and the Far East.
