In a now deleted tweet, he said: “Happy Birthday to the legendary Dale Winton! Have a good one.”

But on Twitter user Colin Simpkin pointed out the error.

He said: “Today’s b****** of the day award goes to Challenge TV, for wishing Dale Winton a happy birthday, despite him having been dead for several months. Genius.”

James Ball said: “Oh dear. A good lesson in why to at least check Wikipedia before you tweet.”

The broadcaster later apologised saying: “We’re sorry for any offence caused by the post on Challenge TV’s Twitter page. This was published in error and was deleted shortly after being tweeted.”

Supermarket Sweep presenter Dale died of natural causes in April last year at the age of 62.

Yesterday he would’ve been 63.
