At least six dead and 200 wounded in election riots: Governor Anies

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan this morning announced the official death toll from the ongoing election riots in the capital, which began yesterday evening and has carried over into this morning.

“As of 9am, six people have died and at least 200 people were wounded,” Anies told reporters this morning, as quoted by Detik

The governor has made visits to the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, where a mass protest is expected to take place today, as well as Tarakan General Hospital in Central Jakarta, where many of the victims from last night are being treated.

The head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Widyastuti, said the six deceased victims underwent medical treatment at Tarakan General, Pelni Hospital, Budi Kemuliaan Hospital, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), and Dr. Mintohardjo Naval Hospital.

The identities of the six victims are not yet known. Earlier today, one victim was confirmed to have been killed during the rioting in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta after he was shot in the chest.
