Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has suggested he would favour a move to Barcelona ahead of Manchester United.

Barcelona are considered favourites to sign De Ligt but deal is reportedly being held up by Mino Raiola’s demands, as he is requesting a larger salary for the defender as well as a bigger agent’s fee.

Last week, reports claimed that De Ligt is not ruling out a move to Manchester United, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side failing to secure Champions League football for next season.

But the 19-year-old has now indicated that he would prefer a move to Barcelona to play alongside his Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong, who has already agreed a £65 million deal to join Camp Nou this summer.

‘I think he has developed very well this year,’ De Ligt told VoetbalPrimeur when asked about De Jong.

‘He deserves the move to Barcelona.’

Asked if he will be playing alongside De Jong at Barcelona, De Ligt replied: ‘It would be nice to play with Frenkie in a team, but I don’t know if it will happen.’
