The latest Avengers movie has sparked a rush of online flight searches for Thor’s new home – even though it is a fictional place.

It is revealed in Avengers: Endgame that Thor is living in a quaint settlement called New Asgard, five years after his crushing defeat at the climax of Avengers: Infinity War.

The location is depicted as a fishing village with a picturesque harbour that lies amid rolling hills.

New Asgard in real life is actually St Abbs in the Scottish Borders and Georgia in the USA.

Avengers: Endgame only opened in cinemas last week but has already sealed its place in history as one of the most financially successful films ever made.

The Disney-Marvel Studios film’s first weekend box office of $1.2billion (£922million) crushed numerous Hollywood records. For starters, it became the fastest film ever to break the $1billion (£768million) barrier, doing so in just five days.

The movie had been forecast to make between $260 million and $300 million in U.S. and Canadian theatres.

But moviegoers turned out in such droves that Endgame flew past the previous record of $257.7 million, set last year by Avengers: Infinity War when it narrowly surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Scarlett Johansson, 34, who plays Black Widow in the films, fasted for up to 15 hours a day to prepare Endgame, and took part in Olympic-level weightlifting, her personal trainer has revealed.

Her meals were time-restricted, meaning she fasted for a minimum of 12 hours every day but, depending on her filming schedule, sometimes this was pushed to 15.

While she cut back on food to keep in shape, Chris Hemsworth, 35, who plays Thor, ate five times a day – consuming up to 3,500 calories – to bulk up for the role.
