Philippe Coutinho was named in Barcelona’s starting XI for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Manchester United on Wednesday.
Coutinho has struggled to cement a regular place in Barcelona’s first team in recent months, and has been linked with a surprise move away.
And the club believed to be at the front of the queue to sign the Brazilian midfielder when the transfer window opens in the summer is Manchester United.
It was therefore interesting to see how the Red Devils fans would react to Coutinho on Wednesday night – whether they would remember him as a former Liverpool player or a potential summer signing.
But we didn’t have to wait long to find out as Manchester United supporters greeted Coutinho with loud boos the moment he touched the ball.
Luis Suarez received louder boos from those inside Old Trafford, but then there is a bit more bad blood between United and the former Liverpool forward.
Suarez went on to open the scoring for Barcelona with the help of Luke Shaw, when his header bounced off the Englishman and hit the back of the net.
